Is it really happening? Can one of the "Spring Break Young Guns" be in jeopardy of losing his PGA Tour Card?
Smylie Kaufman is in the prime of his life, living the dream. He is one of the famous can't miss twenty-somethings that broke onto the scene two and a half years ago with a win at the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open with a closing 61.
Now? Some weeks he has trouble breaking 80.
Smylie is ranked 209 in strokes gained this year and has made only 3 cuts in 15 events. The Sanderson Farms Championship is his only bright spot with a T4 result.
He recently became a husband last week and I hope and pray married life turns his golf game around. It has done wonders for some in the past.
His confidence is gone and so is his golf swing.
Right now I wouldn't want to be walking around in his shoes...by the way, I do have in my possession a pair of his golf shoes he discardedd at the Farmer's Insurance Open.
If he ever wants them back, I'll gladly turn them over...if he let's me help him with his golf swing.
The Secret of Hogan's Swing
"Bubba was the Bomb at WGC Match Play"
I really marvel at the way Bubba Watson can maneuver the golf ball around the golf course.
If Ben Hogan were still alive he would call him out and say he is destroying everything he worked his whole life to develop; a sound repeating golf swing that uses the entire body to propel the golf ball with power and accuracy.
But Bubba is an artist. One who uses his hands to direct the outcome of his shots. Sure he uses his body in a rotational manner, but he seems to create a different swing each and every time he hits the ball...confidently for that manner.
I heard he finally switched back to the Titleist ball earlier this year and for someone who is a feel player, that had to be comforting.
I understand he has not had any formal training in swinging the club, but most people do need it.
His winning for the second time this year only makes the average golfer feel like they can just get up to the ball, swing at it, and become an artist too.
Thanks Bubba. As a professional golf teacher, you just made my job more difficult. Let's see how difficult it will become as the year progresses...
